Data of thousands of FBI employees allegedly falls into hackers’ hands

The Shiny Hunters hacking group has claimed it breached several services linked to the FBI and obtained data on all employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a group representative told 404 Media.

“We hold data on all FBI employees and applicants,” the source told the outlet.

The representative showed journalists a sample of the data that, according to preliminary information, contained personal details of 5,000 FBI employees. The data included addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and, in some cases, information about employees’ spouses.

The outlet partially verified the authenticity of the information: a number of mobile phone numbers matched those of people listed in the file, while some other numbers belonged to employees of the US Department of Justice.

404 Media later received an email from an FBI spokesperson stating that “The FBI is aware of claims regarding unauthorized activity affecting FBIjobs.gov and is currently investigating.”
