Deadly Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon kill hundreds PHOTO
At least 254 people have died in a massive wave of Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon, The Guardian reports.
The coordinated attack targeting Hezbollah marks the largest strike since the beginning of the Middle East conflict and has prompted warnings from Iran about potentially withdrawing from the ceasefire reached with the United States.
Military jets destroyed several buildings in central Beirut, sending plumes of smoke into the sky. Israel’s Defence Minister described the operation as a “surprise strike” against Hezbollah.
The Lebanese capital was left strewn with crushed cars and building debris, with rescue teams working amid attacks on more than 100 Hezbollah military targets nationwide.
The office of the Israeli Prime Minister stated that the two-week ceasefire in the Middle East does not apply to Lebanon, contradicting the claims of mediators, including Pakistan. U.S. President Donald Trump, after initially remaining silent, called the events in Lebanon a “separate skirmish,” outside the framework of the agreement.
