Deadly shooting in India leaves 25 tourists dead, dozens injured
At least 25 tourists have been killed and around two dozen more injured in a shooting attack in the Jammu and Kashmir region of northern India.
The incident occurred in the popular tourist town of Pahalgam, a well-known destination for visitors to the scenic region, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The number of fatalities varies between one and five, though official figures have not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
Omar Abdullah, the head of the Jammu and Kashmir region, described the attack as much larger in scale than any others targeting civilians in recent years. The shooting unfolded as the tourists were making their way up a trail in the picturesque Baisaran Valley.
Armed assailants opened fire on the group, killing several and injuring others. In response, local security forces and medical personnel rushed to the scene to assist the victims. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, which they have labelled as a terrorist act.
