The death toll from a Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv has risen to 19, Ukrainian emergency authorities said on Sunday, July 5, as rescue operations continued across affected areas.
“In Kyiv, the number of people killed as a result of the Russian strike on the night of July 6 has increased to 19. In the Darnytskyi district, rescuers have recovered another body from under the rubble. Work continues,” the State Emergency Service said in a morning statement.
Earlier reports during the night indicated that two bodies had initially been recovered from the debris.
Andriy Danyk, head of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, said search and rescue operations in Kyiv and the surrounding region have been concentrated in two districts of the capital and in the nearby town of Vyshneve.
More than 1,000 emergency personnel and 250 pieces of equipment were deployed on July 6, according to Danyk, who said crews would continue working until all rubble had been cleared.
