Death toll in Gaza reaches over 45,000 as Israeli military attacks continue

Gaza’s Health Ministry has said that as a result of Israeli military attacks in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict in October 2023, the death toll of Palestinians has neared 45,600.

"The number of casualties from Israeli actions in Gaza has risen to 45,581, with 108,438 people injured," the statement reads, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

The Health Ministry emphasised that in the past 24 hours, 28 Palestinians were killed and 59 others injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7, 2023 after militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion on Israeli territory, killing many Israeli kibbutz residents living near the Gaza border and abducting more than 240 Israelis, including women, children and the elderly. Israel declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and launched bombardments of the enclave and some areas in Lebanon and Syria, as well as a ground operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Clashes are also reported in the West Bank.
