Delegation of religious leaders visits Azerbaijan's Aghdam to see war’s toll on sacred sites PHOTO
A delegation of religious leaders from Türkiye and Georgia has arrived in Aghdam as part of an official visit aimed at witnessing the aftermath of the region’s long-term occupation and learning about its historical and cultural heritage.
The delegation is being shown areas that suffered widespread destruction during the 30-year Armenian occupation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The guests are expected to receive first-hand insight into the scale of damage and the historical significance of the sites affected.
Among the key locations being visited are the Aghdam Juma Mosque, the Imaret Complex, and the Alley of Martyrs. Azerbaijani officials are providing the delegation with detailed information on the vandalism and destruction inflicted on Azerbaijan’s cultural and historical sites during the occupation.
In addition to the Turkish and Georgian religious leaders, more than 30 Azerbaijani religious representatives are also participating in the visit. The program will continue until June 2, after which the delegation is scheduled to proceed to Baku for the next stage of their visit.
