Denmark approves next wave of drone purchases for armed forces

15 July 2026 15:46

The Danish government has received approval from parliament’s Finance Committee to proceed with additional drone acquisitions for the country’s armed forces, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

The ministry emphasised the need to expand the use of drones for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, as well as to procure a system capable of “effectively and rapidly” countering enemy unmanned aerial vehicles.

“The experience of the frontline in Ukraine clearly demonstrates the crucial role drones and counter-drone capabilities play on the battlefield. Therefore, the Danish Armed Forces need to strengthen this area quickly,” Danish Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus said.

In 2025, Denmark purchased four long-range drones for its military at a cost of 7.5 billion kroner ($1.145 billion).

The Ministry of Defence did not disclose how many drone systems or which specific models would be acquired under the new procurement plan. The total cost was also not revealed, although the ministry noted that the purchases would be financed through funds already allocated for military armaments.
