Denmark limits Russian diplomats' travel across EU
The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the Russian embassy of new restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats within the European Union.
Russian Ambassador to Copenhagen, Vladimir Barbin, told Russian media that the measures complicate the embassy’s operations and “contradict the spirit of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
Under the new regulations, staff of Russian diplomatic missions accredited in other EU countries, along with their family members, must notify Danish authorities at least 24 hours in advance before entering Denmark, including for transit purposes.
The restrictions are part of the EU’s 19th sanctions package, adopted in October 2025. Similar measures have been implemented in Austria, France, and the Netherlands. In retaliation, Russia has barred entry to several representatives of EU institutions and member states.
European External Action Service (EEAS) has advised diplomats to avoid participating in events involving Russian colleagues, highlighting ongoing diplomatic tensions between Moscow and the EU.
