Denmark to stop granting asylum to Ukrainian men of conscription age

Denmark will no longer grant asylum to Ukrainian men aged between 23 and 60 in an effort to prevent the country's immigration rules from being used to avoid military service, Danish Immigration Minister Morten Bødskov has announced.

According to the Kyiv Independent, the decision involves amendments to Denmark's special legislation concerning Ukrainian nationals.

“Denmark stands firmly with Ukraine in its fight for freedom. That is precisely why we are now introducing changes to the Ukrainian special law, because it was never intended that our legalisation rules be used to evade mobilisation,” Bødskov said.

The announcement comes amid the European Union's ongoing review of the temporary protection measures that have been granted to Ukrainian citizens since 2022 following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
