Design works on Horadiz-Aghband railway line completed, construction progresses
The design phase for the Horadiz-Aghband railway line has been successfully completed, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, a leading specialist from the Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), said.
Hajiyev revealed that construction work on the railway line is now 60 per cent finished, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Construction of one of the tunnels has been completed, and excavation works for the second tunnel are underway,” Hajiyev said, highlighting significant progress on the project.
The Horadiz-Aghband railway line, stretching over 110.4 kilometres, will feature more than 300 artificial structures, including over 40 bridges, tunnels, culverts, and galleries. These will be constructed based on the designs of local engineers.
Key components of the railway line include a 771-meter-long railway bridge, the country’s longest railway tunnel at 1,071 metres, and the first-ever gallery designed to protect the railway from rock avalanches in Azerbaijan’s history.
Once completed, the railway will provide a direct transport link to Nakhchivan, facilitating new freight traffic routes between the East and the West. Hajiyev emphasized the strategic importance of the railway, noting that it would significantly enhance regional connectivity and trade.
