Dior lands decade’s biggest bridal moment with Swift

07 July 2026 01:01

In a significant boost for Paris-based fashion house Christian Dior, both Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wore haute couture designs by creative director Jonathan Anderson at their wedding in New York, giving the label an advantage in its intensifying rivalry with Chanel for high-profile celebrity endorsements.

No photographs have yet been released from the tightly controlled ceremony at Madison Square Garden. However, securing the commission to design Swift’s gown — widely seen as the most prominent bridal assignment of the decade — marks a major achievement for Anderson, 41, who is seeking to establish his credentials just a year after taking the helm at Dior, the latest Reuters piece notes.

At Chanel, creative director Matthieu Blazy, also new to his role, has revitalized the brand and recently made his haute couture bridal debut. Pop star Dua Lipa wore an intricately beaded Chanel gown for her wedding in Sicily in June.

Despite that, the scale of global media attention surrounding Swift’s wedding is expected to generate significantly greater exposure for Dior, one of the flagship brands of LVMH, as it seeks to revive demand amid a slowdown in the luxury sector. Swift’s 273 million Instagram followers and highly engaged global fan base offer the brand a level of visibility few traditional marketing campaigns can match.

Dior said in a statement that the wedding looks were created at its ateliers on Avenue Montaigne in Paris and designed by Anderson in close collaboration with the couple.

Speculation over Swift’s dress had intensified in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. Designers including Stella McCartney — one of Swift’s frequent collaborators — and Sarah Burton of Givenchy were widely viewed as leading contenders.

Prediction market Kalshi had identified Dior as the favorite ahead of the event, with Oscar de la Renta ranked second.

Although Swift regularly wears leading luxury labels, she is not a frequent presence at major fashion events and has often supported smaller or independent brands. Her engagement ring, for instance, was created by Artifex Fine Jewelry. Known for her all-American aesthetic, she wore Ralph Lauren for her engagement shoot, but ultimately chose French couture for the wedding itself.

Anderson, who spent 11 years leading Loewe before joining Dior, has overseen a busy bridal period. In the past month, Dior has unveiled two additional haute couture wedding gowns designed by him, worn by Chinese model Ming Xi and Brazilian influencer Elisa Zarzur.

The timing of the announcement is also favorable for Anderson, who is due to present Dior’s fall/winter haute couture collection in Paris on Monday.

However, industry analysts note that high-profile bridal commissions do not guarantee financial success for luxury brands, particularly as they navigate weaker consumer demand.

Lauren Sanchez wore a custom gown by Dolce & Gabbana for her wedding to Jeff Bezos during a lavish three-day celebration in Venice last year. The Italian brand has since been exploring fundraising options and is engaged in debt renegotiations with banks.

Similarly, Valentino — which designed a column dress for Nicola Peltz at her 2022 wedding to Brooklyn Beckham — reported a loss last year and is also renegotiating with creditors.
