Donald Trump’s decision to stay sober - result of family experience, genetic risks

Proceeding from an article published on its website, Health Digest highlights that Donald Trump's decision to never drink alcohol stems from personal experience and a strong family history. 

Donald Trump is often associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, particularly his well-known love for fast food. However, not all of his habits are detrimental to his health. Despite his sometimes unpredictable behavior, it turns out that Trump has never consumed alcohol. In fact, he is a lifelong teetotaler, having abstained from drinking throughout his entire life.

"I had a brother who was a great guy, but he had an alcohol problem," Trump shared with the National Faith Advisory Board during the Inaugural National Faith Summit in Powder Springs in October 2024, according to The Independent. "It's a hard problem to cure and I've never had a glass because of him... I think I have the type of personality where I probably would have a problem." Fred Trump Jr., who was eight years older than Donald, passed away at the age of 42 from an alcohol-related heart attack.

Not only did Trump witness the devastating impact of alcohol on his brother from a young age, but he also shared with People in 2015 that Fred Jr. had repeatedly urged him not to drink.

"He would tell me, 'Don't drink ever,' he understood the problem that he had and that it was a very hard problem," said Trump. As a result, Trump never drank, a decision that, from a scientific perspective, might be one of his wisest choices.
