Death toll from Iraq mall fire tops 60 PHOTO / VIDEO / UPDATED
The fire that broke out in a shopping centre in Al-Kut city, Iraq, on July 16, has resulted in the deaths of 63 people and injuries to 40 people, an Iraqi media outlet confirmed.
Wasit Governor Mohammed Jamil al-Mahi declared three days of mourning.
"We will not show leniency to those who are directly or indirectly responsible for this incident, which took place under suspicious circumstances," the governor said.

On the evening of July 16, a fire broke out in a shopping centre in Al-Kut city, Iraq, resulting in the deaths and injuries of dozens of people.
The city's governor, Mohammed Jamil al-Miyahi, said that the blaze quickly engulfed the shopping centre, affecting both visitors and staff inside, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“The number of dead and injured as a result of the tragic fire in the large shopping centre has reached around 50 people,” the governor said.

Details of the incident have yet to be clarified.
Local rescue teams are conducting search and rescue operations and investigating the causes of the fire.
