Flooding triggered by prolonged torrential rains in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has left at least 39 people dead, with nine others missing, local authorities said on Thursday, July 9.
The figures were announced at a press conference on flood control and disaster relief, according to state news agency Xinhua.
Officials said the fatalities include victims of a major reservoir breach in Nanning, the region’s administrative capital.
Search-and-rescue operations are continuing, while authorities press ahead with efforts to manage the flooding and mitigate its aftermath.
