Dozens of vessels to join Global Sumud flotilla en route to Gaza

06 September 2025 14:19

Dozens of ships from Tunisia and Sicily are set to join the Global Sumud Flotilla as it continues its mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and draw international attention to the situation there, organisers announced on September 5.

Most vessels are currently en route to Tunis, while several others, including two undergoing storm-related repairs in Barcelona, are preparing to rejoin the fleet. Safety checks and operational protocols are underway ahead of the next leg of the journey. On September 7, ships from the ports of Catania in Sicily and Tunis are expected to depart and link up with the main Barcelona fleet, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media

The flotilla has received support from a range of international lawmakers, trade unions, and human rights advocates. More than 100 current and former elected officials signed a letter calling for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza, protection for participants, and immediate international action to uphold humanitarian law.

Organisers also said that drones are reportedly monitoring the vessels, though this has not been officially confirmed. Delays from ongoing repairs have slightly adjusted the schedules.

The Global Sumud Flotilla called on the international community, the United Nations, and governments worldwide to ensure the safe passage of the fleet and protect participants from detention or intimidation. The coalition also urged an end to what it described as Israel’s blockade and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
