Drone attacks oil facility at Libya’s Zawiya refinery

11 August 2026 11:22

A drone has struck an oil facility at the Zawiya refinery in Libya, with the latest attack marking the third such incident since August 9, according to Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC).

It said in a post on Facebook that the drone crashed near a base oil storage tank and a pipeline network used to produce lubricants for the domestic market, Caliber.Az reports.

“This attack is the third of its kind in the past two days, which threatens the oil wells in the area and calls for the urgent and precise intervention of specialized authorities under various names,” the NOC noted.

The corporation confirmed that the latest strike caused no casualties or material damage, and called on firefighting teams and security services to exercise maximum caution, remain on high alert for any changes in the situation and strictly observe safety rules to protect human lives.

“The company's board of directors also confirms that if these attacks continue, it will have to declare a state of force majeure and suspend operations at the refinery,” the post added.

The latest incident is not the first drone attack in the area of the oil complex since August 8. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks.
