Former Security Council official’s assistant killed in Kyiv drone attack PHOTO / VIDEO / UPDATED

Former Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council Volodymyr Horbulin was injured in a Russian strike on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine building in Kyiv, while his assistant was killed, BBC Ukraine reports, citing sources.

Sources said Horbulin has already returned home and is not in life-threatening condition.

The strike hit a room on the floor above his office.

He said contact had also been lost with several other academy employees.

Officials noted that the offices of Ukrtelecom and the German Embassy are located nearby, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

A major fire has broken out at the site, with flames already engulfing almost the entire roof.

Rescue and emergency services are working at the scene.

A drone has struck a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv, triggering a major fire.

According to preliminary information, people remain inside the building and are currently unable to get out, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

They are trying to escape through the windows.

Rescue and emergency services are working at the scene.
