Drunken passenger forces emergency landing in Baku after disrupting flight
A disruptive incident on a flight from Dubai to Moscow led to an emergency landing in Baku, where a drunken Russian passenger was taken into police custody.
The disturbance occurred aboard a flight operated by a Russian airline, when a passenger identified as Alexander boarded the plane in an intoxicated state, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian Telegram channel.
Alexander began to exhibit erratic behavior shortly after takeoff, shouting at fellow passengers and physically harassing them. He reportedly referred to passengers with offensive terms and continued to behave aggressively, despite repeated attempts by flight attendants to intervene.
The situation escalated as the man ignored the crew’s requests to calm down and continued his disruptive actions. In response, fellow passengers restrained him, tying his hands to prevent further escalation. Concerned for the safety of all those on board, the flight crew decided to make an emergency landing at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Upon landing, Azerbaijani law enforcement was called to the scene and took the Russian passenger into custody. During his detention, Alexander allegedly complained to police about being physically subdued by other passengers. Authorities interviewed the flight crew to gather more information on the incident.
After the disruption was resolved, the airline assured remaining passengers that the flight would resume shortly. Travelers were informed that the aircraft would be ready to depart for Moscow in approximately 30-40 minutes.
