E5 leaders to meet in Berlin to discuss Russia–Ukraine war
Leaders of Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Poland — known as the E5 group — are set to meet in Berlin on June 24 to discuss the Russia–Ukraine war, according to a press release.
The statement confirmed that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will attend the meeting in the German capital, where discussions are expected to focus on coordination of support for Ukraine and broader European security policy.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will also participate in the meeting, according to the report, despite having announced his resignation on June 22. He is expected to continue performing his duties until a successor is in place.
The E5 format was established in 2024 amid growing calls within Europe to strengthen defence capabilities and improve coordination of military and political support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had previously indicated that the meeting would take place this week, though without confirming a specific date.
