Earthquake hits Taiwan, triggers tsunami fear

An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 hit off the coast of Taiwan on September 18.
A tsunami warning has been issued on the Japanese island of Miyakojima, Reuters reports, citing meteorologists.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred 85 kilometres east of Taiwan, the epicentre was at a depth of 10 km. The height of the waves triggered by the quake can be about a meter.
There were no reports of casualties or damage as a result of the event. On September 17, the US Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 6.6 earthquake off the coast of Taiwan. There was no tsunami threat.
