Earthquake jolts waters off Talaud Islands, Indonesia

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Talaud Islands, Xinhua reported.

According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, the epicentre was located 52 km southeast of the administrative centre of the Melonguane archipelago in North Sulawesi province.

The hypocenter was at a depth of 17 km.

The tremors were recorded at coordinates 3.64° north latitude and 126.98° east longitude.

The agency warned of the possibility of aftershocks.
