Earthquake near Boulder Creek jolts San Francisco region

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck Northern California near San Francisco, shaking parts of the region overnight and waking many residents.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake’s epicentre was located near Boulder Creek in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The hypocenter was recorded at a depth of less than 11 kilometres, indicating a relatively shallow event.
The earthquake was initially measured at a magnitude of 5.1 but was later revised downward to 4.6 following further analysis.
The tremors occurred during the night between Wednesday and Thursday local time and were strong enough to be felt widely across the area, prompting reports of residents being awakened.
