Ebola cases in DR Congo rise above 1,200 as outbreak continues

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to 1,203, an increase of 48 cases within the past 24 hours, according to the country’s Ministry of Communications and Media.

The ministry said in a daily bulletin that the death toll has reached 321, up by 17 from the previous day. This places the case fatality rate at 26.6%, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media. 

Health authorities said the outbreak began on May 15 in eastern DRC, with the epicentre located in Ituri Province. Officials also reported Ebola-related cases and deaths in neighbouring Uganda.
