Ebola outbreak death toll in DR Congo reaches 1,960
11 August 2026 11:25
A total of 1,960 people have now died from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with 4,294 confirmed cases of infection, according to Russian media.
Currently, 722 patients are in isolation or hospitalised, while 849 people have recovered.
The most difficult situation remains in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshuapa. No new cases have been recorded in South Kivu for 73 days.
The virus spread from Ituri to neighbouring Uganda, where 20 cases of infection were previously reported, and two patients died. On July 28, Ugandan authorities declared the outbreak over and said the country was “free of Ebola.”
