Ebola outbreak in DR Congo surpasses 2,300 confirmed cases

The number of laboratory-confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen to 2,344, with 77 new cases reported over the past 24 hours, according to the country’s Ministry of Communications and Media.

The ministry said the death toll has increased to 930, including 37 fatalities recorded in the previous 24 hours. The reported case fatality rate stands at 39.7%, foreign media reports.

A total of 724 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals and isolation facilities, while health authorities said contact tracing efforts have reached 85.8% of identified contacts.

The Ebola outbreak began on May 15 in eastern DRC and Uganda. According to health authorities, cases have been detected in five provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with Ituri Province remaining the center of the outbreak.

Officials continue to monitor the spread of the virus and conduct response measures, including patient treatment, isolation, and contact tracing.
