EC proposes to oblige European countries to share gas with each other

18 October 2022 20:55

The European Commission has come up with new measures to combat the energy crisis, which should help to cope with the rise in energy prices and their shortage.

Among them is a proposal to oblige the EU states to share gas with each other, follows from the EC message, Lenta reports.

Currently, not all European countries have bilateral solidarity agreements, and therefore the EC proposes to establish common rules, the publication explains. “This will allow any state facing an emergency to receive gas from other countries in exchange for fair compensation,” the European Commission explained. The rules will apply, among other things, to countries where there are capacities for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the ability to transport fuel to where it is needed.

In addition, TTF hub price capping solutions are being offered, which are currently serving as a benchmark for the market. "Transactions above the dynamic ceiling will not be allowed on the TTF," the statement said.
