Egypt rules out Gaza division, urges swift implementation of Trump plan
Amid rising tensions following Israel’s announcement about opening the Rafah border crossing with Egypt for Gaza residents, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized that “there is no room for talks about dividing Gaza.”
Abdelatty underscored the urgent need for “an immediate transition to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip, which has no alternative.” He noted that proposals have also been put forward to address Hamas’ weapons, Al Arabiya reports.
“We fully hope that President Trump will take charge of implementing the plan,” Abdelatty said.
“All efforts are currently focused on moving promptly to the second stage, as there is no alternative. We must ensure that no party, whoever it may be, derails or delays this process.”
On the issue of Hamas’ disarmament, the minister explained that the matter is being addressed within the framework of Palestinian and Arab dialogue. “There are many ideas on how to resolve this issue calmly, wisely, and tactfully. It is part of Trump’s plan, and all parties, including Hamas, are in agreement,” he said.
Abdelatty also stressed that the process must be gradual until the Palestinian Authority is fully deployed in Gaza, ensuring “complete and organic integration between the West Bank and Gaza.” He further emphasized that the Palestinian police should bear sole responsibility for maintaining security in the Gaza Strip.
