Egyptian president thanks Trump for Gaza ceasefire
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi praised U.S. President Donald Trump for achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Al Jazeera, sitting beside his American counterpart in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, el-Sisi expressed confidence that only Trump “is capable of establishing peace.”
The Egyptian president also thanked him on behalf of his compatriots and all “peace-loving people” for what he called a “great achievement.”
He added that the next task is to ensure compliance with the Gaza ceasefire.
After el-Sisi concluded his remarks, Trump shook his hand, saying: “He’s a good man. We’re with him all the way. He played a very important role. I greatly appreciate it.”
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also posted on Facebook shortly after the American leader’s arrival in Egypt, Associated Press reports.
El-Sisi wrote that at the Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, “the will of the people will be linked with the determination of world leaders to end the war in Gaza.”
“They all send one message to humanity: enough war… welcome to peace,” he said.
During the meeting, el-Sisi also urged Trump to support the Gaza reconstruction conference that Egypt plans to host next month.
