Eight killed in fireworks shop explosion in China

At least eight people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks shop in Jiangsu Province in eastern China.

According to China Central Television, two other people sustained minor burns.

The incident occurred in Donghai County of Lianyungang City. A local resident set off fireworks near a fireworks shop, triggering an explosion and a subsequent fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze about an hour and a half after the explosion.

Police have detained those responsible for the incident. An investigation into the causes of the emergency is ongoing.
