Elon Musk calls for sanctions on top 10 Ukrainian oligarchs to end conflict
US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has said that the United States needs to impose sanctions on the ten largest oligarchs of Ukraine in order to end the conflict.
“Place sanctions on the top 10 Ukrainian oligarchs, especially the ones with mansions in Monaco, and this will stop immediately. That is the key to the puzzle,” Musk wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.
On February 28, 2025, a highly contentious meeting took place in the Oval Office between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the meeting, President Trump advocated for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. In response, President Zelenskyy emphasized the necessity of robust security guarantees, expressing skepticism about Russia's commitment to honoring ceasefire agreements. This stance led to a heated exchange, with Vice President JD Vance accusing Zelenskyy of disrespect and President Trump criticizing him for being ungrateful for U.S. support.
The meeting, marked by heightened tensions and a public display of disagreement, ended abruptly without the anticipated signing of an agreement concerning Ukraine's rare earth minerals. The confrontation culminated in Zelenskyy leaving the White House without signing a planned minerals agreement, marking a significant strain in U.S.-Ukraine relations.
Following the meeting, Elon Musk has been vocal in his criticism of Zelenskyy. Musk accused Zelenskyy of perpetuating a "forever war" with Russia and suggested that Zelenskyy had the option to seek peace but chose continued conflict instead. He labeled Zelenskyy's actions as "evil," "cruel," and "inhumane."
