Emirati defence company launches Lahab self-propelled howitzer at IDEX-2025 VIDEO

Emirati defence company Calidus introduced its latest innovation, the Lahab self-propelled artillery system at the IDEX-2025 International Defense and Military Technology Exhibition. 

The Lahab is touted as the first self-propelled howitzer developed by the Emirati company. It features a 155mm caliber 52 gun, capable of targeting enemies up to 56 kilometres away, depending on the ammunition used. This impressive range makes it a potent asset for long-range artillery strikes, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Equipped with an automatic loading system, the Lahab can fire up to eight rounds per minute and is designed to engage multiple targets simultaneously. The automatic loading container can hold 28 ready-to-fire shells, with an additional 22 shells kept in reserve, ensuring sustained firepower on the battlefield.

The Lahab is mounted on a 36-tonne wheel chassis from the Wahash family, powered by a 724-horsepower engine. Its crew protection meets the rigorous STANAG 4569 standard, which ensures resistance to large-caliber artillery shells and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), enhancing crew safety during operations. To safeguard the crew further, the Lahab’s cabin is equipped with an automatic fire suppression system and additional protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

For close defence, the system can also be equipped with a 12.7mm caliber machine gun and smoke grenade launchers, providing tactical advantages for battlefield concealment. With its combination of advanced artillery capability and comprehensive defence features, the Lahab is poised to become a formidable addition to modern artillery fleets worldwide.
