Erdogan optimistic about strengthening Turkish-Iranian relations
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan anticipates positive and intensive development in relations with Iran following the presidential elections and the victory of Massoud Pezeshkian.
"Massoud Pezeshkian is actually a Turk of Azerbaijani origin. In Tabriz, he speaks Turkish, and when he is in the Kurdish region, he speaks Kurdish. He also has a good command of Farsi. I will contact him and congratulate him. We hope that Turkish-Iranian relations will improve in the future. Moreover, Iran is the country with which Türkiye has the best relations in the region. Iran is also an important neighbor with whom we have historical and cultural ties. I expect Turkish-Iranian bilateral relations to develop positively and at an accelerating pace in the new period," Erdogan told reporters on his return from Germany, as quoted by Anadolu Agency.
