Erdoğan to discuss urgent peace plan with Zelenskyy in Ankara Video

15 May 2025 13:56

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ankara for a working visit focused on the latest developments in the war in Ukraine and the potential resumption of negotiations with Russia.

The meeting will cover “all aspects of the recent developments” in the context of the conflict, Caliber.Az reports.

Fahrettin Altun, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, stated on X that both bilateral talks and wider discussions between delegations are scheduled.

During these meetings, Erdoğan is expected to underscore Türkiye’s position, which prioritises a ceasefire and the immediate launch of peace talks.

Zelenskyy, speaking upon arrival in Ankara, confirmed that any decision on future negotiations between Ukraine and Russia would be made only after his discussions with Erdoğan.

“We will consider what steps to take after our conversation with President Erdoğan,” he said, according to Onedio. He also noted that the composition and level of the Russian delegation, which would potentially participate in talks in Istanbul, remains officially unknown.

The visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement, as Türkiye continues its efforts to mediate between Kyiv and Moscow while maintaining relations with both sides of the conflict.
