Erdogan, Trump discuss Iran ceasefire, regional stability
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on April 8 to discuss the recently announced ceasefire with Iran and broader developments in the region, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said.
The leaders reviewed the situation following the ceasefire declared on the night of April 7. Erdogan welcomed the truce, highlighting that the two-week window after a challenging 40-day period presents an important opportunity to advance toward a lasting peace agreement, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The Turkish president emphasised the importance of using the ceasefire effectively and cautioned against any actions that could undermine the process. He also underscored Türkiye’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts with friendly countries, particularly Pakistan, aimed at achieving a negotiated resolution.
Trump announced the two-week ceasefire with Iran on April 7, describing Tehran’s 10-point proposal for negotiations as “workable.”
