Eritrean teen fatally stabbed in Germany, suspect only 12
Authorities in Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, have detained a 12-year-old boy in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Eritrean teenager Yosef. Investigators believe the crime may have been premeditated and that the suspect likely acted alone.
Yosef’s body was discovered on January 28 near a forest lake on the outskirts of Dormagen, BILD reports.
Forensic examinations confirmed that he had been fatally stabbed. The investigation initially yielded few leads, prompting local authorities to offer a €10,000 reward for information on the perpetrator. Breakthroughs emerged after authorities analyzed data retrieved from the victim’s mobile phone.
Due to the suspect’s age, police and prosecutors have withheld further details, citing juvenile justice regulations and privacy protections.
A memorial service for Yosef is scheduled today at a local football field in Dormagen, with an estimated 3,000 attendees expected to pay their respects.
