Estonia to install 15 new radars to improve border security with Russia
The head of the Ida police prefecture, Tarvo Kruup, said that 15 new radars will be installed in Estonia to improve the security of the border with Russia.
This was reported by the state broadcasting portal ERR.
“Now monitoring equipment covers about 70 per cent of the river border with the Russian Federation in Narva. This is not enough for a complete picture of what is happening in the border zone,” said Kruup.
According to him, in the coming years, the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department intends to build 15 new radar positions in the border area and create a separate drone detection and neutralization system, consisting of radars and other combined systems.
Kruup specified that in order to build the necessary radar positions, the Estonian Interior Ministry wants to buy suitable sites from local governments. The Narva city government was also asked to build in Estonia a new surveillance system and everything necessary for it in Narva on the site where the dismantled T-34 tank monument had previously stood.
