EU announces monthly support for Ukraine starting January 2025
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has said that starting in January 2025, the EU will provide Ukraine with 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) in monthly assistance.
Kallas made these remarks during a press conference following the first meeting of the foreign ministers of the 27 EU member states, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"From January, we will be providing 1.5 billion euros per month," she said.
The total annual amount is expected to reach 18 billion euros ($18.8 billion). In addition, the EU intends to train 75,000 Ukrainian servicemen by the end of the winter. In 2023, the EU allocated 13.5 billion euros ($14.1 billion) to Ukraine out of the promised 18 billion euros, supporting hospitals, schools, and other services, as well as assisting with reforms necessary for EU accession.
On December 9, the EU approved a second tranche of financial aid to Kyiv, totaling more than 4.2 billion euros ($4.4 billion), as part of its assistance fund for Ukraine. In August 2024, Ukraine received the first tranche, also amounting to nearly 4.2 billion euros ($4.4 billion). The EU plans to provide 50 billion euros ($52 billion) in financial aid to Ukraine by 2027, with 33 billion euros ($34 billion) in loans and 17 billion euros ($17.8 billion) in grants.
Moscow has condemned the military assistance to Kyiv, stating that it will not change the outcome of the conflict but will only prolong it.
