EU avoids power crisis despite extreme heat, EC spokesperson says
06 August 2026 18:58
The European Union's electricity supply remains stable despite extreme heat affecting parts of the bloc, the European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen has said.
Speaking to reporters, she noted that some power plants had temporarily suspended operations because of low water levels or excessively warm river water, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"In each of these cases, any shortfall in electricity generation can be covered through imports from other countries," she added.
Itkonen remarked that the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) remains in contact with EU member states and is closely monitoring the situation.
