EU calls for diplomacy, reiterates stance on Iran’s nuclear possession
European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has warned of a dangerously high risk of further escalation in the Middle East, stressing that diplomacy remains the only viable path to a lasting resolution.
Kallas reiterated the EU’s firm position on Iran’s nuclear ambitions following her conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Araghchi, Caliber.Az reports.
“The EU has always been clear: Iran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon. Only diplomacy can lead to a lasting solution. The EU is ready to support,” she wrote on X.
Israel launched a massive assault on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure on June 13, using warplanes and smuggled drones to strike key sites and kill senior generals and scientists in a bid to halt Iran’s atomic progress. In response, Iran fired dozens of ballistic missiles at Israel, prompting explosions over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
