EU chief hails US-Iran pact, presses for full reopening of strategic Hormuz passage
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran.
“In Évian, I congratulated the US president on his agreement with Iran. We both agree that it should mean a definitive end to Iran's nuclear programme. The Strait will reopen. Oil prices are falling. And that's how diplomacy delivers,” she wrote on X.

In another post on X, she stressed that “first, we need to ensure the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, without restrictions. Second, the events in the Strait have highlighted vulnerabilities that we need to adress. We should work together to alternative supply routes and new corridors, such as the IMEC. With better connectivity, we can transform vulnerabilities into opportunities.”
