EU concerned over Ukrainian drone crash in Finland, blames Russia

30 March 2026 15:47

The European Union has expressed concern regarding the incident involving a Ukrainian drone that crashed in Finland, but stated that it does not pose a security threat to the EU member state.

According to a correspondent for European Pravda, the European Commission believes the root cause of the situation is “Russian aggression” against Ukraine.

“We are very well informed about what happened and are closely monitoring the development of the situation. Of course, we are concerned about such drone incursions,” said European Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier.

He emphasised, however, that responding to such incidents is primarily the responsibility of EU member states.

European Commission spokesperson for international affairs Anitta Hipper added: “From a diplomatic point of view, our message is clear… Even when we have drones flying over EU member states, the main culprit here is Russia. Without Russia, this would not have happened.”

Deputy Chief Spokesperson Olof Hill also noted that in this case “no security threat is perceived” to Finland or other EU countries.

Additionally, the European Commission is already taking steps to strengthen the capabilities of member states in counter-drone measures. In particular, a new EDIP program has been approved, which provides for significant investments in anti-drone defence systems.
