EU considers cancelling Schengen visa issuance within next anti-Russian sanctions
German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit has said that the EU is discussing the content of the seventh anti-Russian package, including the issue of stopping the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian passport holders.
He made the remarks at a press briefing in Berlin on August 10, Gazeta.Ru reports.
“In principle, in the EU we are in the process of discussing how ... the seventh package of sanctions should look like, what components it may contain … There is still no single position on this matter, also from the federal government, on how to approach to the issue,” said Hebeshtreit, answering a media question whether German Chancellor Olaf Scholz personally supports the proposals of some EU countries to stop issuing Schengen visas to Russians under sanctions EU.
