EU extends mandate of mission training Ukrainian troops

The European Union has extended the mandate of its training mission for Ukrainian military personnel, EUMAM, for another two years, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said following a meeting of the EU Council at the defence ministerial level.

Kallas also outlined the next steps concerning the mission’s future. “On training, Member States agreed on the first step of strategic review of EUMAM, extending our mission for Ukraine for another two years,” she noted.

She added that the EU will continue establishing a coordination hub in Kyiv to analyse lessons from combat operations and strengthen military education.

The main task of EUMAM is to train Ukrainian military personnel, including individual training, unit coordination and specialised exercises. The mission also coordinates EU member states’ training efforts for Ukraine.
