EU, Kazakhstan near deal on visa facilitation, von der Leyen says
European Union and Kazakhstan negotiations on simplifying the visa regime are nearing completion, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Speaking during talks in Brussels with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, von der Leyen said the EU was actively working on agreements covering visa facilitation and readmission, and indicated that discussions on these issues were close to being finalised, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
She also noted that both sides still needed to address remaining barriers in trade relations, saying this would help give new momentum to bilateral trade and investment.
The talks were also attended by European Council President António Costa.
Tokayev is in Brussels on an official visit for meetings with senior EU officials.
