EU, Oman agree to establish diplomatic mission in Muscat

The European Union and Oman have signed an agreement to establish an EU diplomatic mission in Muscat, marking a significant step in deepening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across a range of strategic sectors.

The agreement was signed by Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, Omani authorities said on Tuesday (July 21).

According to Muscat, the new diplomatic mission will serve as an institutional platform for broadening cooperation in energy, technology, logistics and infrastructure, as well as food, water and maritime security.

Kallas described the agreement as "a major positive turning point" in relations between the European Union and Oman.

Both sides said the EU's permanent diplomatic presence in the Omani capital would strengthen political dialogue and improve coordination on regional and international security issues, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between Brussels and Muscat.
