EU’s high rep: Sanctions on Iran may return if nuclear talks stall
EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas has announced that the EU may reinstate sanctions on Iran if there is no advancement in resolving the ongoing nuclear dossier.
Kallas made these remarks ahead of the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from the EU member states, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Speaking to reporters, she emphasised the EU’s commitment under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and highlighted the existence of a rapid response mechanism that would allow the bloc to quickly restore all sanctions should Iran fail to improve its cooperation.
“If everyone agrees that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons, then we must work firmly towards that objective,” Kallas said, underscoring the EU’s determination to uphold nuclear non-proliferation.
