EU to act immediately against Iran for supplying missiles to Russia, official warns
Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano has said that the European Union will quickly react to Iran's alleged missile deliveries to Russia by imposing sanctions against the country.
“The EU's response will be quick and prompt. Josep Borrel has already submitted his proposals on targeted restrictive measures to the EU countries,” he said, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Stano said the EU had received “reliable information from partners about Iran's supply of missiles to Russia”.
“We have clearly told Iran that if we receive evidence of deliveries, there will be serious consequences in coordination with our partners. We urged Iran not to do so,” he added.
On September 11, Pentagon officials claimed that Iran sent close-range ballistic missiles to Russia, which could start using them to attack Ukraine “within weeks.”
The missiles can reach a maximum of 75 miles and allow Russia to maintain its stocks of more valuable, and more menacing, long-range fires, according to Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder.
Since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago, Russia has relied on its partners — in almost all cases other US adversaries — to refill its stocks. Iran has been a particularly avid supplier, shipping one-way attack drones, missiles and other lethal aid to Russia throughout the war.
