EU to extend Magdalena Grono’s mandate as Special Representative for South Caucasus
The European Union is set to extend the mandate of Magdalena Grono, its Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Georgia, for an additional two years.
This decision is expected to be confirmed at the upcoming meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council next week, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
A senior EU official disclosed during a briefing that Grono has successfully built strong relationships across all three countries in the region. The Council President will formally propose the mandate extension during the ministerial session.
Magdalena Grono’s role has been pivotal in advancing the EU’s engagement in the South Caucasus, particularly in supporting peace efforts and regional stability. According to the official, under her extended mandate, Grono will continue to provide the EU’s support wherever opportunities and needs arise — including facilitating the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
