EU top diplomat: Talks on Ukraine security guarantees move in right direction
Negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine are progressing in the right direction, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.
Speaking upon her arrival at the EU summit in Brussels, she stressed that Ukraine needs not symbolic but real security guarantees that clearly define who would provide support and how in the event of a new attack, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Kallas noted that the discussion must focus on concrete military capabilities and the involvement of allies.
EU foreign policy chief also underlined the importance of US participation in any future security guarantee framework.
Separately, The New York Times recently reported details of deterrence measures being prepared by Ukraine’s partners as part of talks surrounding the “peace plan” of US President Donald Trump’s administration.
According to the report, one of two draft documents sets out “broad principles,” which two US sources and several European officials compared to Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.
