EU unauthorised to ban arms supplies to Middle East countries
Peter Stano, the lead spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has said that the European Union (EU) does not have the authority to impose a ban on arms supplies to the Middle East countries.
He made this statement during a press conference in Brussels, Caliber.Az reports.
According to him, this issue falls under the jurisdiction of the national governments of EU member states.
In response to a question from reporters about whether the EU could impose an embargo on arms supplies to the entire Middle East to help resolve regional conflicts, Stano emphasized, "The EU has no competence in the area of arms trade; this matter is handled by the member states."
This declaration clarifies the limits of the EU's role in regulating arms trade within the context of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
